31st March 2023, Mumbai: The universe of Woody and Buzz will be back in Toy Story 5 according to Disney. On the 2023 year-end earnings call, Bob Iger, the CEO of Disney, said that a new Toy Story sequel would be produced by Pixar. After Lightyear in 2022 and Toy Story 4 in 2019, it will be the sixth Toy Story movie to be released in its entirety. Toy Story 5 will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of its predecessors to become another movie office smash for Disney. The Pixar series, which first debuted the animation company back in 1995, has so far grossed more than $3.3 billion.
Toy Story 5’s status at Pixar is “in development,” and no official release date has been set as of yet. We may have to wait up to four or five years for Toy Story 5, which would place its release window in 2027 or 2028 based on the release cycles of the previous movies. Toy Story 5 might come out in June 2026, as Pixar presently has three untitled films scheduled for release in June 2025, March 2026, and June 2026. We anticipate Toy Story 5 to debut in the summer like Toy Story 3 and Toy Story 4.
Would Tom Hanks and Tim Allen, who played Woody and Buzz Lightyear, reprise their roles in Toy Story 5? Without their outstanding voice work, Toy Story wouldn’t exist. The Home Improvement star, who didn’t feature in the Lightyear spinoff, tweeted to clarify he would return as Buzz with Woody when Toy Story 5 was revealed: “We’re heading to a number 5; see you soon, Woody! Beyond the infinite!” Allen indicated interest in coming back as Buzz Lightyear for a fifth Toy Story movie when discussing the possibility of a fifth movie with ET in 2019. Allen remarked, “I don’t see any reason why they wouldn’t do it, obviously. If you get to four, you’re past the trilogy [point]. “Do five,” I would advise if you asked.” 2019 saw Tom Hanks appear less certain, saying to Ellen DeGeneres: “We’re saying goodbye to Woody and Buzz and Bonnie’s room and Andy and everybody,” before he followed up with: “Is it over? I have no idea. It will last forever. This hopefully means that Tony Hale as Forky, Annie Potts as Bo Peep, Joan Cusack as Jessie, Wallace Shawn as Rex, John Ratzenberger as Hamm, and Blake Clark as Slinky Dog will also make a comeback. Don Rickles, who played Mr. Potato Head in the ensemble, regretfully won’t be coming back because the actor passed away in 2017.
Woody and Buzz will undoubtedly need to get back together for another adventure, even though the specifics of Toy Story 5’s plot are still unknown. Pete Docter, the head of Pixar, said of the fifth movie: “I think it’ll be shocking. You haven’t seen some truly cool stuff like this before. Toy Story 4’s dramatic conclusion included Woody and Bo Peep leave Bonnie’s toys to join Giggle McDimples, Duke Caboom, Bunny and Ducky as “lost toys” at the fairground. The remainder of Bonnie’s playthings, including Trixie, Dolly, Buttercup, the Potato Heads, Bullseye, Forky, Buzz, Jessie, Forky, Bullseye, Slinky, and Buttercup, went back to her family’s RV. We eagerly anticipate learning how that occurs.
