The trailer of the much-awaited web series Rana Naidu was released on Wednesday evening. The series brings together Rana Daggubati and Venkatesh Daggubati on screen for the first time in an explosive crime thriller. The show is a remake of the successful American series Ray Donovan and will soon stream on Netflix.
The series was shot in many locations including Los Angeles. It was difficult to make it in Hindi from English as director Karan Anshuman told in an event ” I thought It seemed like It was so wrongly set in the LA but it would look to its best in the Indian Adaptation. The things you’ll find in Bombay, in Hyderabad, you cannot find in LA right. We’ve gone way beyond what they did while making the series.”
The trailer begins with the introduction of Rana Naidu (Rana Daggubati), who is the fixer of the stars. He handles scandals of Bollywood celebrities in his own violent and controversial manner. He is ‘the first person every celebrity calls in trouble’, the show establishes. But Rana is also a family man, a good husband and a loving father, who balances these two lives perfectly.
Their idyllic life is interrupted when their father – Naga Naidu – is released from prison and returns to the family fold. Played by Venkatesh Daggubati, Naga is an unlikely character who has some ulterior motives, at least that’s what our hero thinks when he tells his wife that he is a ‘snake’. What follows is a violent confrontation between the fathers and hence gunfire and relationships are tested.
Reacting to the trailer, fans praised the real-life uncle and nephew’s chemistry. One fan wrote, ‘Wow! I am very excited for this series. Pure chemistry between these two. Another commented, “The last dialogue was great. Never heard of Venky Mama uttering a bad word!”
On bringing together the real-life nephew-uncle duo, Rana and Venkatesh Daggubati, the makers of Rana Naidu said, “Adapted from the original Showtime series, Ray Donovan, Rana Naidu is a series that combines heartwarming drama . Rana (Rana Daggubati), a celebrity fixer, and Naga (Venkatesh), their father, come together onscreen for the first time and each episode is packed with both chemistry and kinetic energy that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
Rana Naidu also stars Surveen Chawla, Sushant Singh and Ashish Vidyarti in pivotal roles. The teaser of the show was unveiled last year in September at TuDome: A Netflix Global Fan Event. Its release date has not been announced yet.
